Webmail and Windows Live Mail

The upgrade to the webmail, well let’s just say it did not go nearly as well as I had hoped. We are still in a privately patched unreleased version (beta). Being a squeaky wheel has garnered us an unprecedented amount of attention from our Email host and the program developers. Also, many people have been working long and hard to get all of the issues resolved. But that doesn’t matter, you want your email… I know that.
First, let me say, that no email has been lost. Our host holds email for us for up to three days should our server ever be offline for any length of time. Second, we are still trying to get the webmail to be reliable and fast by cooperating with the developers. That being said, if you are still frustrated with the webmail there are alternatives. One that is free and familiar is Windows Live Mail.
If you are using Windows 7 on your own computer (and I hope you are) you can find it by clicking the start button and typing the word “Live” – you should get an Icon for “Windows Live Mail”. Click it. It will ask you for your email address, password and a display name. . Fill out these values , make sure that “Remember password” is checked then check the box that says “Manually configure server settings for e-mail account” then click next. Change “the incoming server” to IMAP by using the drop down arrow next to POP. The incoming server is mail.randrealty.com, the Logon username is your whole email address, the Outgoing server information is also mail.randrealty.com you need to change the port from 25 to 587 and check the box that says “Requires authentication”. Then click “next”. That’s it. You should be able to see all of your mail and all of your folders almost immediately, depending upon the size of your account.
If you can’t find Windows Live Mail on your computer don’t despair! http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/essentials-home Click download now, then Run and if prompted again click yes. Click chose the programs you want to install and for purposes of this manual uncheck everything except “mail” and click install. It will take a while… but once it is installed you can run it and follow the above instructions.
